The US midterm elections: Will Biden become a “lame duck”?

by time news

Today (Tuesday) the United States goes to the midterm elections that will decide whether the Democrats will lose the majority in the House of Representatives and the Senate and whether Biden will become a “lame duck”, unable to promote real moves.

According to the US Constitution, the lower house of Congress has 435 representatives, with each state receiving a number of representatives according to its size, and all are up for re-election every two years, in the presidential election and two years later in the midterm elections. In contrast, only a third of the Senate, which has one hundred representatives (two for each state) is up for election today, since according to the system in the United States, every two years another third of the Senate (the upper house) is nominated for election and each senator is actually elected for six years.

According to estimates, due to the difficult economic situation in the United States under Biden and the disappointment of most Americans with him, the Democrats are expected to suffer a heavy blow and lose in the lower house of Congress and possibly even in the Senate.

On the Israeli right, fingers are crossed for the Republican Party, since a Republican victory today will affect the ability of Biden and the American administration to pressure Israel or try to influence the functioning of the right-wing government that is expected to be established soon in our country.
