Muscat: Malayali Omani go karting racer Shonal Kunimal has won the Bahrain Rotax Max Challenge. Shonal, a student of Gubra Indian School, has made a good start to the new season by becoming the vice champion in the first round of the recently held international kart circuit in Bahrain. The 2023 season of the Bahrain Rotax Max Challenge kicked off last week at the circuit in Sakhir.

This student has been a familiar face in the karting circuit for six years. The P2 position was secured in the Mini Max category. Shonal’s finish was 0.153 seconds apart. With the help of coach Khalifa Waheed Alyaqubi and mechanics Waveen Ablas and Charit Nadee Perere, it is a pleasure to start this season in Bahrain with a strong performance. Shonal Kunimal said that the aim is to win the title this season.

Shonal is competing in the Mena Nations Cup 2022 Championship which will be held from December 13 to 17. Last year Shonal had won a medal in the micro max category of this championship. Apart from Oman, they are from Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Morocco, Lebanon, Syria, Cyprus, Algeria, Tunisia, Sudan, Iraq, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, UAE, Libya, Iran, Mauritania and Djibouti. Drivers will also participate.
