The British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, lamented this Wednesday the resignation of Gavin Williamson as minister without portfolio -who officiates as deputy prime minister- and assured that he was not aware of the accusations against him, after accusations of having sent Aggressive messages to former classmates.

Williamson – a former Minister of Defense and Education – announced his resignation on Tuesday night once the scope of some aggressive messages he sent to the former head of the conservative parliamentary group Wendy Morton and former employees became known, something that is currently under investigation.

In Wednesday’s control session in the House of Commons, the leader of the opposition Labor Party, Keir Starmer, questioned Williamson’s appointment a fortnight ago and accused the Prime Minister of being “weak” for having included him. in your Executive.

Sunak stressed today that Williamson did “good” in resigning and regretted having appointed him so that he would later end up resigning under these “circumstances.”

While the prime minister was aware of a complaint against the now former minister without portfolio filed by Morton, he says he was not aware of the content of the complaints. Among them, the accusation of an official who accused Williamson of having told him to “cut his throat” when he was in charge of the Defense portfolio.

“The behavior reported was unacceptable and it is absolutely correct that the honorable gentleman (as MPs in the Commons are called among themselves) has resigned. For the record, he was not aware of any specific concerns relating to his conduct,” insisted the Prime Minister.

“I believe that people in public life should treat others with consideration and respect and those are the principles that will be upheld in this government,” he added.

In mobile messages with insulting language, according to the media, Williamson accused Morton of having excluded some deputies – like himself – from being able to attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II to “punish” them for political reasons.

Sunak, who succeeded Liz Truss two weeks ago, brought back Williamson, much criticized after his time in Education in Boris Johnson’s cabinet, from which he was dismissed, as well as Defense, for his new Executive, a decision that from the beginning of his mandate received a lot of opposition.
