The International Boxing Association announced on Wednesday that the Women’s World Boxing Championship will be held in Delhi in March next year.

This is the 3rd time India is hosting this championship. It is to be recalled that the competition has already been held in Delhi in 2006 and 2018. Apart from this, in 2017, the Women’s Junior World Championship has also been held in India.

In 2021, when India was supposed to host the Aadhaar World Championship, India was deprived of the opportunity to host the tournament due to failure to pay the fee to the international association. Now after 2 years the World Championship will be held again in India. The agreement was signed between the International Boxing Association and the Boxing Association of India on Wednesday.

1,500 competitors and coaches from 75 to 100 countries are expected to participate in the competition. Boxing Association of India president Ajay Singh said that for the first time in the history of the championship, the possibility of reviewing the referee’s decision on technical grounds will be implemented in the match to be held in Delhi.

He also informed that a total of Rs.19.50 crores will be given as prize money to the gold medal winners of the competition in the form of Rs.81 lakhs. India got 3 medals including 1 gold in the last tournament held in Turkey.
