London: Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur teams could not get hold of the English League Cup matches where many of the leading players were out ahead of the World Cup. Chelsea lost to the mighty Manchester City by two one-sided goals, while the Gunners lost to Brighton and Tottenham Hotspur to Nottingham.
City reached the League Cup pre-quarters with a convincing 2-0 win in a game that saw many in the gallery, including Haaland. Riyad Mehres, who gave City the lead with a free kick goal, was decisive in the second goal as well. Mehrez hit the ball to the post in the penalty box, but Chelsea goalie blocked it and Alvarez, who got it on his feet, headed it into the net.

Keller is a Liverpool hero
