Bird flu at Belgian rearing farm in Turnhout

by time news

A company with 60,000 hens reared in Turnhout, Belgium, has been infected with bird flu. The hens were culled immediately to prevent further virus spread.

The 10 kilometer zone around the infected company just doesn’t touch the border with the Netherlands. The transport restrictions therefore only apply in Belgium. These restrictions apply to the total of fifty poultry farms and a hatchery in this poultry-dense area.

It is the eleventh outbreak of bird flu in Belgium since 1 October 2022. Five of which are on poultry farms and six among hobby keepers. Since November 1, 2021, there have been 25 outbreaks of bird flu. Of which twelve at poultry farms and thirteen at hobby farmers.
