Thrissur : Congress councilors protest in Thrissur Corporation on the issue of illegal appointments. The protest was alleging that 200 people were temporarily appointed from the party list in the electricity department. The councilors crossed the police line in front of the corporation office and reached the mayor’s office. When he tried to open the closed gate, there was a scuffle with the police. The conflict lasted for more than half an hour. Later, more police arrived and arrested people including opposition leader Rajan Pallan.

The opposition is protesting for the fifth day in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation on the allegation that the mayor gave a letter to the CPM district secretary asking for a person for contract appointment. Arya Rajendran explains that although the letter came out with his signature on the mayor’s letter pad, he is not related and has not given the letter. The crime branch, which is probing the incident, has already recorded the statements of the mayor and the corporation employees.

The opposition wants the mayor to take responsibility for the controversial letter and resign. UDF workers outside the corporation and UDF councilors inside are on dharna for this matter. BJP and Yuva Morcha workers are also continuing the protest at the place demanding the mayor’s resignation. BJP leader in charge of Kerala Prakash Javadekar and state president K Surendran reached the spot and announced their support for the BJP councillors’ strike. As the protest turned violent, the police used water cannons, tear gas and grenades.
