Facebook has just announced mass layoffs, and Twitter also wants to significantly reduce costs: it is now becoming apparent that other companies could follow.

DAccording to a newspaper report, the Internet group Amazon is putting unprofitable sectors to the test. The device division, to which the voice assistant Alexa belongs, is also up for debate, the Wall Street Journal reported. This division of the widely ramified group alone recently made an annual operating loss of more than five billion dollars.

Amazon has recommended that employees in some areas look for positions elsewhere in the company. Amazon’s share price jumped more than 11 percent as a result of the news.

The group explained that, given the economic environment, it was of course examining cost-cutting options. However, Amazon is confident about the future of Alexa. The voice-controlled assistance function is an important business and investment area for Amazon.

Some of the big tech companies in the United States are currently trying to cut costs and have announced job cuts, most recently Facebook parent company Meta. Twitter also announced massive job cuts after the takeover by Tesla boss Elon Musk.
