In 2020, the 72-year-old actor was diagnosed with cancer of the lymphatic system and in January of the following year he caught Covid and spent five weeks in intensive care: when he came out, he could stand just 45 seconds

In order to be able to accompany his youngest daughter Hayley to the altar, Jeff Bridges trained in the hospital corridor, pacing back and forth still attached to the oxygen tank, under the supervision of a coach who kept the time. In fact, after the diagnosis of cancer of the lymphatic system in 2020 and the Covid-19 which he took in January 2021 and which left him more dead than alive (he spent five weeks in intensive care), the 72-year-old actor was able to stay standing for just 45 seconds, then he lacked strength and in those conditions it was unthinkable that he could walk alongside his daughter for her wedding.

My first goal was to understand how long I could stand up – said the Hollywood star in an interview with the English “The Independent” – since my record was 45 seconds and then how many steps I could take. I worked every day with a professional and eventually my walks got longer and at one point I said to myself “maybe I can do it”. Then it turned out that I not only had to accompany my daughter to the altar, but that I also had to toast and dance with her at the reception.

Despite the difficulties, in the end his efforts were rewarded: in the images published by Brides magazine in July 2022, in fact, we see a proud and smiling Bridges accompanying Hayley to the altar on the day of her wedding, celebrated in the Santa Ynez Valley in California in August last year. Married since 1977 to film producer Susan Geston, the actor has two other daughters: Isabelle and Jessica.
