THIRUVANANTHAPURAM ∙ The government’s attempt to save face has announced a vigilance investigation amid ongoing protests for the 5th consecutive day over the letter controversy against Mayor Arya Rajendra. The High Court had asked the other day what was done about the letter. The Vigilance Director then ordered an investigation.

Vigilance Director Manoj Abraham has directed to check whether there is any corruption behind the letters of Mayor and Corporation Parliamentary Party Secretary DR Anil and submit a report within a week. Meanwhile, the Crime Branch, which is probing the circulated letter, has not registered a case yesterday. It is indicated that the case will be taken without making any accused. The corporation office became a scene of conflict yesterday as well in the opposition strike demanding the mayor’s resignation. BJP Kerala Prabhari Prakash Javadekar MP came to the protest.

The police fired grenades, water cannons and tear gas at the march of the BJP OBC Morcha. UDF lashed out at the demonstration. The crime branch did not take the statement of CPM district secretary Anavoor Nagappan and DR Anil yesterday.
