India is one of the leading producers of small grains in the world. India’s production of small grains has increased by 27% in 2021-22 over 2020-21. Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka and Gujarat are leading states in the production of small grains. One percent of the total small grains production is exported. The market size of small grains is estimated to increase to USD 12 billion by 2025 from the current USD 9 million. Following this, to increase the export of nutritious grains, the Union Ministry of Industry and Commerce has prepared a comprehensive plan to promote the export of Indian small grains in the coming December through the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Promotion Authority, a high-level agricultural export promotion body.

Accordingly, the government is also encouraging new industries to increase exports of value-added products such as ready-to-eat ready-to-eat noodles, pasta, breakfast cereal mixes, biscuits, sweets and savory items. After this, India’s small grains are exported to America, Britain, Yemen, Egypt, Tunisia, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Nepal, United Arab Emirates. Also, small grains including rye, corn, millet and groundnut are being exported from India, the central government said.
