Law lecturers against the surrogacy clause in its current form: 126 lecturers and faculty members from law faculties from all over the country are publishing today (Sunday) a manifesto, calling on the members of the future Knesset not to enact a surrogacy clause in its current form, which speaks for a majority of 61 Knesset members.

According to the signatories of the manifesto, they recognize the authority of the Knesset to make changes in the legal system, but they believe that the legislation of a superseding clause in the current format of 61 members of the Knesset, will lead to a serious damage to the protection of human rights in Israel.

They add that such a superseding clause will make it possible to violate any human right, even the most fundamental, without any limitation. For example, the Knesset, through a simple coalition majority, could limitlessly violate the right to dignity, impose movement restrictions or initiate surveillance without any effective legal oversight, prohibit demonstrations, violate religious freedom or freedom of religion or gender equality, and this without any effective judicial review.

According to the lecturers, this call is made out of concern for the human rights of everyone, including those who intend to enact the law today, and their rights may be harmed if the government changes, and it will be difficult to turn the wheel back.

Among the signatories of the letter: lecturers at the Hebrew University, Bar-Ilan University, Reichman University, Tel Aviv University, Haifa University, Ono Academic College, Sapir College and many other institutions.
