Anja Rützel’s column: On Psychokitsch coffee trip

Cathy Hummels considers depression to be a lifestyle tinnef, and an idol from the carefree years says goodbye: the week on the boulevard with Anja Rützel.

Banality of the stupid: Cathy Hummels, influencer and ex-gamer wife.Imago

Ms. Rützel, who made you angry this week?

Cathy Hummels and various other influencers in her wake. She flew with them to a “Strong Mind Retreat” in Rhodes to “strengthen mental health” in a luxury hotel. Supposedly, she wanted to use this campaign to help normalize the issues of depression, panic attacks and similar mental illnesses – in fact, during the retreat, the participants mainly gave out discount codes for various lifestyle tinnef. Of course, Hummels suggested that you only have to consume happily and go out into the fresh air for a bit to heal yourself from such conditions one-two-fix. This highly dangerous trivialization really made me very angry. The German Depression League also distanced itself from the psychokitsch coffee trip and wrote in its statement: “Depression is neither chic nor en vogue.”

I hope you at least enjoy Mike Tindall for that. The English ex-rugby national player and husband of Queen’s granddaughter Zara has been in the British jungle camp since Sunday. Are you following how he’s doing there?

Of course, and I’m very happy with its performance so far. While the inmates of the German camp had become more and more grumpy and lazy in the past few years, on the second day of camp Tindall happily blurted out that the very first lunch date with his future wife ended in a drunken spree: “That’s when we found out that we both like to get drunk. That was a good start.” On another occasion, he shared how his youngest son was born unplanned on the bathroom floor. Zara was in such pain that Mike, who was born passive, was also affected: “She almost choked me to death,” he said in the camp, “but you can’t say anything about that, can you? ‘Can you let go, you’re really hurting me?'”. Things should get even more exciting in the camp over the next few days, because the former British Minister of Health, Matt Hancock, who is very unpopular because of his corona policy, has also moved in a little late. Shortly after Hancock moved in, Mike Tindall called any of his statements “bullshit”, which could still be funny.

Unfortunately, another celebrity report of the week is very sad: Andy Taylor, the former guitarist of Duran Duran, is terminally ill with cancer.

That really hit me, because of course I loved Duran Duran very much in the eighties and still do to this day. Last weekend the band was inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in Los Angeles and on the occasion lead singer Simon Le Bon read Andy Taylor’s salute to the fans for being too weak already , so that you can travel there yourself. It’s not easy to watch when the heroes from your own carefree years are gradually met, who you still have in mind as beautiful and lightning young.

Rainn Wilson, known as the oddball Dwight Schrute from The Office, changed his name last week and is now Rainnfall Heat Wave Extreme Winter Wilson – good idea or minimally awkward?

I love everything about this promotion, although I find his full stage name Rainn Percival Dietrich Wilson quite impressive. But he didn’t come up with his new middle name for fun and money, but to point out in the context of the UN climate change conference COP27 which homemade environmental catastrophes will threaten mankind in the future. By the way, you can create your own name on arcticrisk.org/name-generator/.

What does Helene Fischer actually do?

I think, for reasons of climate protection publicity, she will immediately adopt the new name that I had the generator determine for her: In the future she will be known as Helene Unpredictable Monsun Fisherman.

Christian Seidl asked the questions.
