New Delhi: National Sports Awards announced. Table tennis star and Commonwealth Games gold medalist Ajanta Sarath Kamal was awarded the Major Dhyanchand award. The National Sports Ministry announced the awards on Monday.
Sarath won the award for his outstanding performance at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games this year. Sarath won four medals including three gold.
Malayalam stars such as HS Prannoy (Badminton) and Eldos Paul (Triple Jump) were awarded the Arjuna Award. Commonwealth Games Badminton gold medalist Lakshya Sen also received the Arjuna Award. Seema Punia, Avinash Mukund Sable and Nikhat Zareen were also honored with the Arjuna Award.
The Dronacharya Award for the best coaches in sports and games regular categories was given to Jeevanjot Singh Teja (archery), Muhammad Ali Qamar (boxing), Suma Siddharth Shirur (para shooting) and Sujeet Mann (wrestling).
Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma’s coach Dinesh Jawahar Lad has been awarded the Dronacharya Award for his lifetime contribution to cricket.
