Colombo: The Sri Lankan court has ordered an inquiry into former President Gotabaya Rajapakse regarding Rs 1.75 crore cash found in the Presidential Palace. After the economic crisis escalated in Sri Lanka last February, people began to engage in protests. Allegations arose that the Rajapakse family kept all the power and looted people’s money.

A series of protests were held demanding the resignation of the President and Prime Minister. As a part of that, on July 9, when protesters seized the presidential palace, President Gotabaya and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse fled the country with their families.

The video of the public enjoying using the items in the President’s House and seizing the cash of Rs 1.78 crore from there went viral on the internet. As the money was handed over to the police station, the court conducted an inquiry into the matter. At that time, the police said that they would investigate how the money in the President’s House came to be, whether it was received as a bribe or for other reasons.

In this case, the country’s court has ordered an inquiry into Gotabaya Rajapakse regarding the money seized from the presidential palace.
