After the briefing by Likud officials against Smotrich and the accusation that he is “wasting time on jobbers instead of taking advantage of the opportunity to regulate the young settlement”, religious Zionists respond to Likud and accuse Netanyahu of resisting American pressure and may once again freeze construction in the settlement, as has already happened in the past.
Sources in religious Zionism: “They are troubled by the reports that Netanyahu opposes the appointment of Smotrich due to the pressure of the Biden administration and the fear that he will lead an aggressive policy against terrorism and the Palestinian Authority and will work to regulate the settlements, to prevent the PA from taking over the open areas and the construction boom in the West Bank.
We will not agree to surrender to foreign dictates and return to the policy of “freezing construction” in Netanyahu’s settlement in 2009-2010.”
