Mexico City: The Mexico team for the Football World Cup has been announced. Coach Gerardo Martino’s 26-man squad includes injured striker Raul Jimenez. 31-year-old Raul Jimenez is the star of English Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Due to knee and ankle injuries, Raul was able to play in four games during the season. Mexico’s all-time top scorer Xavier Hernandez was not considered for the team. Real Betis’ midfielder Andreas Guiardo will lead the team. This is Guiardo’s fifth World Cup. Striker Jesus Corona and young players Santiago Jimenez and Diego Lines were left out of the World Cup team earlier due to knee injury. Veteran goalkeeper Guillermo Ochove is in the squad. Mexico is in Group C along with Poland, Argentina and Saudi Arabia. They will face Sweden in today’s warm-up match.
