Sybil Newsom, who was identified in court as ‘Jane Doe 4’ (this is how anonymity is described in the American court), burst into tears when she told how Weinstein allegedly raped her in 2005 at the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills.
“I stand. I resist,” she said. “Horror. I’m shaking. This is my worst nightmare. I’m just this inflatable doll he’s trying to masturbate into.”
When asked by Deputy District Attorney Marlene Martinez to describe Weinstein’s body, Sibel Newsom said: “A lot of bruises, marks, yellow and green, a lot of stretch marks on his stomach, very poor physical condition. He looks unrounded and strange, kind of like a fish – like, The penis, something twisted in the testicles… a lot of skin, a lot of skin down there.”
Newsom, a former actress, is the fourth woman to accuse Weinstein of sexual assault in his trial taking place in Los Angeles court.
Weinstein – who is already serving a 23-year sentence for rape and sexual assault in New York state – is facing charges for sexually assaulting four women in Los Angeles between 2004 and 2013.
The 48-year-old said she agreed to meet Weinstein in a hotel suite to discuss a film project, because “he can help or destroy the career.”
However, once they were alone in the room, Newsom said that Weinstein changed his suit into a robe, and began to “manipulate” and “threaten” her, mentioning several actresses’ names.
According to her, Weinstein penetrated her private parts with his fingers and then with his “distorted” penis.
Sibel Newsom said in tears:
“He knows it’s not normal. He knows it’s not consent.”
She also added in the beginning that Weinstein was unable to get an erection.
“Then he put part of his penis inside me and pushed me back to the bed.”
“He didn’t stay inside because his penis is so weird and messy. He understands that. I was just worried that I was going to get some disease. It was so gross.”
Newsom added that she froze in fear but put her hand on Weinstein’s penis to “try to get him to stop.”
“I just made some noises to make him emit faster, just like pleasure noises”.
After Weinstein lashed out, Newsom said she was speechless.
“I just wanted to get out of this damn place,” she said through tears – “Excuse my language”.
When asked by Martinez why she continued to correspond by email with Weinstein even after the alleged rape, Siebel said she felt that what happened was a “one-time thing” and Weinstein got married.
“I tried to put what happened in a box, even though it sometimes came out,” she said. “And my sadness and my fear sometimes turned to anger.”
Newsom was also asked about an email she sent to Weinstein in 2007, in which she sought his advice when Newsom was mayor of San Francisco.
In a previous ruling, Judge Lisa Lench granted prosecutors permission to use the email, which mentioned a 2005 affair Newsom had with an assistant.
“I believed that Harvey Weinstein had relations with the press and understood how to handle the press, and I thought he could help,” Newsom said when asked about the email.
During a 15-minute cross-examination, defense attorney Mark Werksman attacked Sybil Newsom for donating $500 to her husband’s campaign.
Newsom said her husband’s team requested the donation at her suggestion, but said the money was returned after the MeToo movement.
“When did you tell Gavin Newsom about the accusation of sexual assault?” asked Werksman.
“I told him that Harvey was sloppy at different times, and he realized it himself when he met him,” she replied.
During his opening statement, Worksman attacked Sybil Newsom, saying: “Today she is Governor Newsom’s wife. She is California’s first partner… She has made herself a prominent victim in the MeToo movement… Otherwise she would be just another bimbo who slept with Harvey Weinstein to advance in Hollywood”.
