Ranchi: Martin Guptill of New Zealand overtakes Virat Kohli of India in the T20I run chase. Guptill came out on top, beating Virat Kohli by 3227 runs. Guptill was just 11 runs behind before batting in Ranchi. The Kiwis opener overtook Kohli in the first over of Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Guptill, who scored 31 runs in the match, now has 3248 runs. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is third in the run chase.

India won the series by seven wickets in the second T20I match between India and New Zealand at Ranchi. The Kiwis were bowled out for 153 with 16 balls to spare. With this, Rohit Sharma, who took over as the full – time captain of the T20I, and Rahul Dravid, the full – time coach, won the maiden series.

Chasing a target of 154, Ranchi were bowled out by skipper Rohit Sharma and vice-captain KL Rahul. Rahul hit 65 off 49 balls, including six fours and two sixes. Rohit hit five sixes and 55 off 36 balls. Suryakumar Yadav fell in one over but Venkatesh Iyer and Rishabh Pant put on 12 runs for the victory. Tim Southee took all three wickets for India.

India won the toss and elected to field. Guptill and Mitchell, who came to life, gave a shattering start. The Kiwis seemed to be heading for a big score but the Indian bowlers held on. With this the Kiwis were reduced to a score of 153/6. The top scorer was Glenn Phillips with 34 runs. Debutant Herschelle Patel shone with two wickets. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar, Akshar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin took one wicket each.

Man of the match was Herschelle Patel who made his debut. The final match of the series will be played in Kolkata on Sunday.
