Trappes: here we go again for sales of low-cost potatoes

by time news

Potatoes falling from the truck, it’s not over. Launched at the time of the Covid, the sale of potatoes at cost price – or almost – is making a comeback in the outer suburbs. The farmer from the North behind the operation has decided to relaunch this successful operation, which has been acclaimed in large popular housing estates.

He will therefore spend Thursday with his 25-tonne truck at the foot of the buildings in the city of Merisiers, in Trappes (Yvelines). “We had planned to stop after the Covid but we receive so many requests, so many customers who contact us via social networks that we could not stop like that. So we decided to come back. We will do fewer tours but we will still be present, ”says Jérémy Demassiet.

Cheap potatoes, but took 25%

After Trappes this Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., the “ch’ti truck” will go to Vitry-sur-Seine (Val-de-Marne) on Friday and Osny (Val-d’Oise) on Saturday. Les Mureaux will welcome him all day Friday, December 9, Place de la République.

Launched in 2020 in the midst of a health crisis, the initial objective of the operation was to quickly sell the stock of potatoes accumulated due to the closure of restaurants. Faced with success, sales multiplied until they settled in the landscape and became unavoidable. With a notable change this year: tubers are not immune to inflation, going from 40 cents per kilo to 50 cents, an increase of 25% due to higher fuel costs for tractors and transport. In addition, this summer’s drought considerably affected production.
