The Egyptian “Suez Canal Container Company”, operator of the container terminal at Port Said East port, stated on Tuesday that it signed a contract with the “Suez Canal Economic Zone” to manage further expansions and provide logistics services at a new wharf that will be 955 meters long. She added that the expansions will increase the handling capacity of the terminal from 5 million not to almost 7 million.
It was also reported that the expansions will include an additional container handling complex with an area of approximately 500,000 square meters, which will increase the area of the container handling complex from 1.2 million square meters to 1.7 million square meters, and this in addition to a total investment of 500 million dollars. The total investments since the establishment of the company have increased to 1.5 billion dollars, in a 30-year contract.
Stephen Youglingham, the company’s CEO, stated that the new terminal will be operated using clean and renewable energy sources, as part of its strategy to reduce 70% of carbon emissions during its container handling activities at its terminals by 2030.
