Chennai: Electricity authorities have clarified that consumers who have more than one electricity connection can link their Aadhaar number.
Tamil Nadu Electricity Board has asked to link Aadhaar number with electricity connection of consumers. Also, the work for this has also started. According to this, the power board is sending text messages to the registered cell phone numbers of electricity consumers asking them to link their Aadhaar number.
Some consumers have more than one power connection per household. Also, some have got electricity connection to four or five rented houses in the same name. In this case, electricity consumers can link the same Aadhaar number to more than one electricity connection in their name, the electricity board officials have explained.
When asked about this, the power board officials said: In order to regulate the subsidy provided by the power board to the consumers, they have been asked to link the Aadhaar number with the electricity connection. Also, even if a person has more than one e-connection in his name, he can link his single Aadhaar number to all the e-connections. There is no problem with this.
Similarly, in case the houses are rented out, the tenants living in the house can link their Aadhaar number with the electricity connection of the house. Facilities for this have also been made on the website of the Power Board. Thus they said.
