Michaeli spoke at the “Emergency Conference to Save Democracy” held in the Knesset, and said: “It used to be taken for granted that the State of Israel is Jewish and democratic. Today, the democratic part is not taken for granted and there is an attack on it that is a real existential battle. The unbelievable sentence – ‘Human rights organizations are an existential threat to the State of Israel, the government must take care of them.” To think that a Jew would say this sentence.

How will the government handle them? She will walk around with a gun drawn and try to eliminate our justice system. This is a clear attempt to eliminate the democratic side of the State of Israel and subject it to a force that is now called “Jewish”. It is an unrestrained use of the power of those who are strong today.

She also said: “We will fight them here in the Knesset, the organizations will fight them on their platforms and together we will fight for the image of the State of Israel – a country that is the home of the Jewish people, a liberal democracy with equal rights for everyone.”

MK Gilad Karib said at the conference: “The existential threat to the State of Israel is the transformation of Smotrich and his views into legitimate and leading ones. The campaign of threats and intimidation by Smotrich and his friends will not frighten and silence us. Countries that “take care” of human rights organizations have a very clear definition, and we are not going to let him and his friends degrade us to this place.’
