Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has told the Bombay High Court that the acquisition of land for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, except for the land owned by Godrej and Boys Manufacturing Company Limited in suburban Vikhroli, has been completed.

A legal tussle between the state government and the company has been going on since 2019 over the acquisition of land owned by Godrej and Boys in Vikhroli.

In this case, the company filed a petition last month challenging the Maharashtra government’s September 15 order providing compensation for land acquisition for the bullet train project. Judges R.T. A bench consisting of Tanuka and SGTK said that the hearing on the petition will begin from December 5.

Advocate Ashutosh Kumbakoni, appearing for the state government, said the matter was urgent as the project was shelved. Kumbakoni said that while the entire land required for the project has been acquired from Mumbai to Ahmedabad, except for the land owned by Godrej, the acquisition of other land has been completed.

Earlier, the state government and the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited had said that the project was being delayed because Godrej and Boyce was creating unnecessary hurdles in the land acquisition process.

Godrej and Boyce denied this, saying the land acquisition activities were illegal.
