Another attack has been carried out within the boundaries of the nuclear power plant in the Russian-controlled city of Zaporizhzhya, Ukraine.

Ukraine and Russia have accused each other of carrying out the fatal attack.

According to a statement issued by Enerkodam, the nuclear power organization of Ukraine:

On Sunday morning, Russian troops launched a barrage of grenades in the Zaporizhia area. During the attack, 12 bombs were recorded falling within the boundaries of Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant.

In the statement, Enercodam alleged that Russia has once again threatened the world with such an attack.

In this situation, the Russian nuclear power organization Rosatom Atomic Corporation has warned that there is a risk of a major accident at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant due to the attack being conducted by Ukraine.

About this, the head of the organization, Alexey Ligashev, said on Monday, “Ukrainian troops are attacking the spent fuel warehouse, the special utility building, the cargo transportation corridor, and the area where diesel is stored for use in generators at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. More than 30 attacks have taken place on Sunday alone.

Therefore, we have declared that nuclear power plant as an accident hazard area. In this regard, UN He said that we are holding talks with the IAEA, the nuclear watchdog.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24 last year in protest against Ukraine joining NATO.

At the very beginning of the invasion, Russian troops entered the city of Zaporizhia in the southeast and captured the nuclear power plant there.

The plant, Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, has come under frequent attack in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, causing international concern.

Russia and Ukraine have issued conflicting statements about the attacks. Ukraine has blamed Russia for the attacks, and Russia has blamed each other for the attacks.

In this context, the UN has called on Russia and Ukraine to immediately cease military activities at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear facility and declare the area a demilitarized zone, or face a major nuclear disaster. Secretary General Antonio Guterres warned.

The recent UN IAEA Director General Raffaele Grassi also made the same request at the Security Council meeting.

He stressed that even if some activities pose a small risk to the safety of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, those activities should be avoided and that the IAEA expert team should be allowed inside the center to find out the true situation as Russia and Ukraine cannot confirm what is happening there. Russia also agreed.

After that, a 14-member IAEA expert team visited the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant in person on September 1. Following that, the expert panel said that the safety norms have been violated many times in the nuclear power plant.

However, the organization did not say anything about the accusations that Russia and Ukraine are making against each other regarding the missile attack.

In this situation, in response to the recent setbacks in the war, Russia is actively attacking structures including power plants across Ukraine, and the alleged attack within the boundaries of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant has again caused a shock wave.
