Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was killed in a bomb blast in Tamil Nadu’s Sriperumbudur in 1991. CBI has arrested 41 people in connection with this massacre. was arrested. In this, 4 persons namely Nalini, Murugan, Shanthan and Perarivalan were sentenced to be hanged and 3 persons namely Robert Byas, Jayakumar and Ravichandran were sentenced to life imprisonment.

Later, on the recommendation of the Tamil Nadu government, the governor ordered that Nalini’s death sentence be reduced to life imprisonment. Later the death sentence of the remaining 3 was commuted to life imprisonment by the Supreme Court.

After that, all 7 people were kept in different jails. The Supreme Court heard Perariwalan’s case and ordered his release last May. Accordingly he was released.

Following this, the Supreme Court acquitted the remaining 6 on the basis of the Perariwalan judgment on the 11th. Subsequently, all 6 of them were released the next day (12th). The central government has opposed this release. It also filed a review petition in the Supreme Court on the 17th against the release of 6 people.

In its petition, the central government had said that the Supreme Court did not listen to the central government’s arguments in the case of the six people’s appeal, and even though 4 of the six acquitted persons were from Sri Lanka, the central government did not give them an opportunity to present their arguments.

In this situation, it has been reported that the Congress party has also decided to file a review petition in the issue of the release of Rajiv murder prisoners. Party sources said that this petition will be filed in the Supreme Court this week.
