Jakarta Archbishop Cardinal Ignatius Sugaryo has said that the Catholic Church is open to working with other religions on the path of true brotherhood in Indonesia.

Cardinal Sugaryo also mentioned that in this country with diversity of different religions, cultures, languages and political leanings, even though Catholics are a minority, such a discrimination is not felt at any level, and for the past 20 years, everyone has been working together with the feeling of being Indonesian citizens.

The cardinal added that Indonesia is a country of happy people because it realizes that a country cannot see development or success by imposing one’s religion on another.

Noting that various problems arise because some people use religion for their political gains, Cardinal Sugaryo also expressed concern that this is an obstacle to building Indonesia on the path of brotherhood.

With more than 17 thousand islands, Indonesia is rich in biodiversity. More than 23 million people living in this country are diverse with different languages, cultures, religions and political affiliations. (AsiaNews)
