It is alleged that Bajwa collected crores while serving as Pakistan Army Chief; Order for investigation

Islamabad: General Qamar Javed Bajwa and his family members are alleged to have acquired illegal earnings of crores of rupees during the six years of their tenure as Pakistan’s army chief. Pakistani website The Fact Focus reported that Bajwa’s family earned around Rs 12.7 billion (1270 crores). The allegation came when he was only days away from retiring from military service.

The website has also released the property information of General Bajwa and his family members from 2013 to 2021. Bajwa’s wife Ayesha Amjad’s earnings rose to 2.2 billion (220 crores) within six years. According to the website, they had no savings in 2016. Bajwa’s son’s wife Mahnoor Sabir’s savings for the period from the end of October to the first week of November 2018 was Rs 1271 million (127.1 crore). Before that there was no savings in their name. Mahnoor’s sister Hamna Nazir’s assets also ran into crores during 2016-17.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar ordered an inquiry into the property of Bajwa and his family. The finance minister said in a statement that Bajwa acquired the property illegally and it was a failure on the part of various institutions working under the finance department. He also ordered to submit the investigation report within twenty-four hours. The Pakistan Army has yet to respond to this issue.
