Kochi: The governor has clarified in the High Court that the government recommended for the post of VC of the Technical University was unfit for the post. The Governor replied while the High Court was considering the petition filed by the government against the appointment of Sisa Thomas as the temporary VC of KTU.

Those recommended by the government were ineligible for the post of VC. Following the Supreme Court verdict, the appointment of Digital University VC was also in doubt. The Governor informed the court that it was for this reason that Digital University rejected the name of V.C.

The court asked the chancellor how he found Zisa Thomas. The court asked who suggested the name of Sisa Thomas and whether there were no other VCs. The governor then explained the matter.

The government argued that there was no need for UGC rules or special procedures for the appointment of a temporary VC. The government pointed out that the Vice-Chancellor only recommends the Pro VC. But the court inquired whether a temporary VC is not the same as a permanent VC. The court also asked the government whether the period was temporary. The court observed that even if a person holds the post of VC for only one day, he is still VC.

The court observed that VC is a more responsible job and selection of VC should be done with care. The selection should be done after the examination by the selection committee and the search committee. The court said that it is not the qualification of Sisa Thomas, but the seniority that should be examined. The court said that the importance is given to the students and the university and the concern is about the students.
