Without referring to the content, the IDF spokesman’s press release came out about half an hour after the Sabbath, desecrating the Sabbath of those concerned on the one hand, and on the other hand the inability of Sabbath-keeping journalists to address the announcement.

The Chief of Staff’s announcement after Shabbat

This is not the first time that the Chief of Staff has activated the IDF’s spokes system on Shabbat for no operational purpose. Seven months ago, after the shooting attack in Tel Aviv, the Chief of Staff came to talk with fighters in the Yosh, and made a statement to the media after Shabbat. So the IDF claimed that it was a malfunction and apologized. It turns out that the lessons were not applied.

At the journalists’ forum, they condemned the IDF’s press release: “The last time the Chief of Staff trampled on the sanctity of the Sabbath for the sake of a press conference, the IDF said that the army learned lessons. But it turns out that statements are one thing and deeds are one thing, and the Chief of Staff continues to trample on the sanctity of the Sabbath and thereby also harm Shabbat-observant articles that cover the field.

The Journalists’ Forum, which represents dozens of religious and ultra-Orthodox journalists from all media outlets in Israel, calls on the Minister of Defense to intervene and make sure that such incidents do not happen again. The Chief of Staff and the IDF spokesman must respect the journalists’ day of rest, and not harm them again and again.”
