Jeddah: Damage assessment committees have started counting the items damaged in the heavy rains that lashed the city on Thursday. An electronic method, similar to the system used in the country’s population census, is being adopted to collect data assessing damage to natives and foreigners.

After submitting necessary documents before the Damage Assessment Committee comprising various government agencies, the committee will proceed with the damage assessment procedure. The committee’s data collection took place in Al Aj Weed areas of the city over two days.

Heavy rain started last Thursday morning and lasted for about eight hours. Due to this, all parts of the city were flooded and there was a strong current. Hundreds of vehicles were swept away by heavy rains. Several shops were also damaged by water.

City officials said that the same compensation will be given to the victims of the flood in Jeddah in 2009. The Jeddah Municipality has also announced that all projects related to rainwater runoff in the city will undergo evaluation.
