The letter was sent on the 11th of the month, and as is customary with senatorial letters, the billionaire was given two weeks to send a reply – until last Friday. When that didn’t come, Markey angrily tweeted: “Elon Musk can respond to my tweets, but failed to respond to my letter by yesterday’s deadline and answer a simple question about Twitter’s verification process. Congress must end the era of failed self-regulation by the tech giants and pass Laws that will place the safety of users above the whims of billionaires.”

Musk responded to Markey: “Maybe it’s because your real account sounds like a parody.” After a few hours he also added: “And why are you wearing a mask in your profile picture?”.
