Vietnam Social Security Receives Southeast Asia Effective Practices Award | Society

Vientiane (VNA) – Social Security Vietnam (SSV) was honored for the second time in a row with the ASEAN Social Welfare Association (ASSA) Effective Practices Award, thanks to its policies support for employers and employees affected by the COVID-19.

The award ceremony took place at the 39th ASSA Executive Committee Meeting, held recently in the Laotian city of Luang Prabang under the theme “Social protection in the post-pandemic recovery process”, according to the Nhan Dan newspaper.

As highlighted at the meeting, with the advice of the SSV and the concerned parties, the Vietnamese Government promulgated a resolution on the use of the Unemployment Insurance Fund for employers and workers affected by the new coronavirus pandemic.

In a short term, 1.28 billion dollars were disbursed, from which more than 13.3 million wage earners benefited. In addition, more than 347,000 employers enjoyed a partial reduction in contributions to the Unemployment Insurance Fund.

The solidarity policy was implemented with transparency and alacrity, fulfilled its due purposes and for correct recipient groups, they appreciated.

Earlier, at the 38th meeting of the ASSA Executive Committee, the SSV was honored for its mobile application VssID-Social Security Digital.

The 40th edition of the event is scheduled for Malaysia in the third quarter of 2023.

During their stay in Laos to participate in the ASSA meetings, the Vietnamese delegation signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation with the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare of the host country for the period 2022-2025.

This is another commemorative activity for the 60th anniversary of binational diplomatic ties and the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation.

Under the document, future collaboration will focus on sharing experiences in implementing social security mechanisms through mutual visits, outreach and training.

On the occasion, Dao Viet Anh, Deputy Director General of the SSV, presented the medal “For the Cause of Social Security in Vietnam” to deserving contributors from both parties, including Vice Minister of the aforementioned Laotian portfolio Padeumphone Sonthany, former Director General of Insurance Social Security of his country, and the current holder of this position, Keo Chanthavixay./.
