Did he do it again, or actually maybe not? Well, it depends on who you ask. Cristiano Ronaldo was a touch away from getting on the scoreboard for the second time at the 2022 World Cup, but a moment of controversy denied him the goal, despite celebrating, and awarded it to Bruno Fernandes.
It happened in the 55th minute, when Ronaldo Spek got his head to Bruno’s cross. The Portugal star immediately ran to celebrate, but FIFA was not impressed and awarded the goal to his friend Manchester United – something that caused many disputes among the English commentators and in general.
“If it was Valderrama they would have considered it for him,” tweeted an Opta analyst after seeing the photo of Ronaldo’s hair touching the ball. “A double-decker bus could have been inserted through the gap between Ronaldo’s head and the ball,” the editor-in-chief of the “Daily Mail” thought differently.
A journalist who covers United summed it up best: “Good luck to the FIFA official who has to go into the Portugal dressing room to tell Ronaldo that the goal didn’t count.”

Ronaldo so desperate to claim a goal that isn’t his that it’s quite funny. You could fit a double decker bus through the gap between his head and the ball there

Good luck to the FIFA official who has to go into the changing room to tell Cristiano Ronaldo he hasn’t scored that. Bruno Fernandes has been credited with it. (BBC)

Ronaldo has celebrated like he touched that but Fernandes has been given in by the announcer in the stadium. Either way, Fernandes has done it again for Portugal. Great clipped ball into the box.
