A pink brick to give hope to milk producers in Haute-Garonne

by time news

A pink brick to launch a responsible milk sector in Haute-Garonne. This Tuesday, November 29, the production of this new brand of dairy producers in the department started on the lines of the YéO Frais company, which has specialized since 1929 in the design, production and processing of yogurts and fresh creams.

The objective of the La Brique Rose association is to sustain the dairy industry in Haute-Garonne, organize milk supplies and ensure better remuneration for breeders, with a value for milk at 5 cents per liter higher than the national price.

Shrinking holdings

“We have noticed a decrease in dairy cattle farms for several decades in the department, a spiral that we want to break with the Brique Rose, underlines Florian Leguay, president of the association. We are currently eight farms, all from Comminges, to have left the dairy for which we worked in order to engage in this project which brings added value to our farms and will finance the installation of young farmers. Before, we didn’t know where our milk was going, whereas with the Brique Rose, there is traceability and local consumption”.

The association will supply YéO Frais with 3.5 million liters next year, but is aiming for 10 million in five years. The project was supported by the Chamber of Agriculture of Haute-Garonne, the Occitanie region, the departmental council, Toulouse Métropole and the Community of Communes Cœur et Coteaux du Comminges.

La Brique Rose is marketed in Occitania in supermarkets and supermarkets, as well as for collective catering.
