The Sri Lankan Catholic Church has appealed to all believers to save money spent on luxury items for the Christmas season and share it with families living in extreme poverty to celebrate the festival.

Arulpani Basil Rohan, National Director of Papirai Missionary Associations, has said that this invitation is being extended not only to the Catholics living in Sri Lanka, but also to those living in foreign countries as the pilgrimage season has begun.

Arulpani Rohan said in the November 27 Sunday Mass that many people decorate their homes with unnecessary decorations, giving commercial value to Christmas and diverting from its true meaning during the Advent season.

Arulpani Rohan said that even in our temples we sometimes use too many unnecessary lamps for decorations and the same way as people, Arulpani Rohan has asked Catholics to avoid such unnecessary luxuries.

Arulpani Rohan, who has sent a message to the foreigners living in Sri Lanka pointing out the current situation in Sri Lanka, said that the people of Sri Lanka are currently facing difficult situations and advised them not to waste things. (AsiaNews)
