Geneva: India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ruchira Kamboj said that no one should teach India what to do in a democracy. Ruchira Kamboj said that India’s democracy is many years old and media plays an important role in strengthening democracy. Ruchira’s remarks were made while talking to the media at the UN headquarters after assuming the post of the Security Council chairman in December.

India is the oldest civilization in the world. Legislation, administration and judiciary are the pillars of democracy. Media is the fourth pillar to strengthen democracy and today social media too. That is why India is becoming the largest democracy in the world.’ Ruchira said. Ruchira Cambodia’s reply to media workers’ question about media freedom in India was that they should not be told what to do in a democracy.

She noted that everyone has freedom of expression in India and the country is rapidly reforming, transforming and embracing change. Ruchira Kamboj is the first woman Permanent Representative of India to the UN.
