A handball derby, women’s basketball in Carpentier, the cream of breaking… Your sports weekend in Île-de-France

by time news

The winter break is coming soon, but good habits don’t change. Before each weekend, Le Parisien offers a selection of issues and events not to be missed in Île-de-France. Overview.

The weekend poster: Ivry challenges PSG

HANDBALL. This Saturday (5 p.m.), the atmosphere will be very hot at the Auguste-Delaune gymnasium in Ivry. The Val-de-Marnais club, back among the sixteen best in France, will not be favored in the predictions against PSG, leader in the Starligue classification. Fifteen points separate the two teams after eleven days and the reciprocal ambitions are very different. Ivry, 14th, also risks losing Créteil (13th), who travels to Saint-Raphaël (11th) this Friday.

In Proligue, the three Ile-de-France clubs are playing at home this Friday evening, but it is Tremblay who has the best card to play. Co-leader with Pontault, the men of Chérif Hamani indeed welcome Villeurbanne (15th), while the Pontellois of Guillaume Saurina will have to overcome Saran (4th). At the same time, Massy (10th) has the opportunity to go back to Billère (9th).

The rookie: the Latvian Pasecņiks and his 2m16 in support of Wemby

BASKET. Another 30 points scored? Will Victor Wenbanyama cross this symbolic bar once again as he did against Limoges, Nanterre and Nancy in his last three games to become the first Frenchman in 35 years to achieve this triple consecutive performance? This is one of the challenges of the coming of Fos-sur-Mer this Friday in Levallois in a room once again sold out. The other issue is whether the Mets 92 will continue their march forward to remain (co) leader of the Betclic Elite. Note that the Mets in recent hours have recruited the Latvian Anzejs Pasecņiks to compensate for the injury of Ibrahima Fall Faye. He played a few G-League games with Washington after his NBA draft. He previously played at Real Betis in Spain. The new recruit is 2m16, 5cm shorter than Wemby.

The place to be: the Dome of Paris – Palais des Sports

BREAK DANCE. For more than 20 years, the Battle Pro Series has seen the best breaking dancers in the world compete. This international event offers a taste of the representation of this sport which will feature at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Organized at the Dôme de Paris this Sunday on the stage of the Palais des Sports (from 4 p.m.), the competition will take place in the form of battles in four categories: Crew vs Crew (mixed), 1 vs 1 B-Girl, 1 vs 1 B-Boy, 1 vs 1 Baby Battle (under 12), with dancers from ten different countries.

The 100 professional dancers who will compete for the title are among the many contenders to participate in the next Olympics, including members of the France team. International DJs will be present on the stage for an atmosphere at the top, while shows will be provided in parallel with the battles, in order to show the spectators all the beauty of breaking. This international competition also aims to promote the discipline, which combines artistic and sporting performance. In France, more than a million people practice breaking.

Prices: from 29 to 35 euros.

The discovery: a women’s basketball derby at the Halle Carpentier

Make way for women! For one evening, this Friday, the Halle Carpentier in the 13th arrondissement of the capital, will become the lair of women’s basketball in Île-de-France. Promoted to National 1, the equivalent of the 3rd hexagonal division, Orly will “welcome” its neighbor Sceaux for a boiling derby and an event match (8:30 p.m.). The objective of the club is to offer a quality show to the Ile-de-France public weaned from women’s basketball.

Tickets from 5 euros.

The number: 5

Like the number of victories by players from the Stade Français Paris Saint-Cloud on their Geo-André floor since the start of the season. Undefeated on their land, the Mariannes – nickname of the players – will be keen to continue this great series against Chamalières this Saturday (8 p.m.) on the occasion of the 10th day of the Women’s League A. The Parisiennes who also remain on 3 successes occupy 3rd place in the classification, three lengths behind leader Nantes.
