Sani Yaya, Minister of Economy of Togo: “African banks, a tool of sovereignty”

Sani Yaya, Minister of Economy and Finance of Togo and President of the Council of Ministers of UEMOA (Economic and Monetary Union of West Africa) is the big guest of the economy RFI – Jeune Afrique.

The interview was recorded at the Hotel February 2 in Lomé, where the Africa Financial Industry Summit was held (November 28-29, 2022), a meeting of the most important financial decision-makers on the continent: representatives of banks, insurance, development finance agencies and prominent political figures. The summit was opened by Togolese President Faure Gnassingbé, who calls for ever closer collaboration between governments and the financial sector.

For more than 45 minutes, Bruno Faure (RFI) and Julien Clémençot (Jeune Afrique) question Sani Yaya on all the major issues affecting the economy of his country and the sub-region: the terrorist threat in northern Togo, the consequences of the war between Russia and Ukraine, questions of inflation and monetary stability, the role of the CFA franc, relations with the IMF, with Western powers and in particular France, sanctions against African countries theaters of political unrest, the development of the financial sector in Lomé.
