Shanti, an obstetrician from Chennai, says that a person who has a urinary tract infection can easily spread the infection to his or her partner and if one wants to recover, it is necessary for both to take treatment.
Dr. Shanthi says that if a kidney infection is not noticed in the early stages, its maximum effect is kidney failure.
He says that frequent urge to urinate and very little urination are the initial symptoms and in some cases, chills and headaches are also caused by it.
Why does it occur during pregnancy?
Dr. Shanti explained the reasons why women face this problem more than men.
“Women’s body structure is also a reason. Next to the urethra is the genital opening. It is also the gateway to menstruation and sexual intercourse. Also the stool is nearby. This makes it very easy for infection to spread. Bleeding occurs during menstruation. Most of the women use a long nappy during this time. “It is kept in a way that the urethra, genitals and anus are placed in such a way that the infection spreads very easily,” he says.
Also, “During pregnancy, the uterus dilates. It compresses the urinary bladder, so even if you urinate a few times, a small amount of urine will remain in the bladder, so women are more likely to get this infection during pregnancy,” he says.
Next, when asked how it spreads from one person to another, he says that it is spread from an infected man or woman to their partner during intercourse.
Wash the genital area with water before and after sexual intercourse. If one person is infected, it can easily spread to others at that time. So, if one has an infection, we recommend that both get a urine test and both take pills,” says Shanti.
He says that even if you don’t drink as much water as you need, kidney stones can get infected and it is good for a person to make it a habit to drink at least three liters of water.
“Some of us forget to drink water even when we are at work or relaxing at home. If you don’t drink water according to your body’s requirement, you will experience irritation and pain while urinating,” he says.
What test?
Talking about protecting against urinary tract infection, he said, “After urinating, wash cleanly, wash before and after sexual intercourse, drink water according to need, change the napkin used during menstruation every four hours, etc. If you feel like there are symptoms, it is necessary to get a urine culture test done immediately, says Dr. Shanti.
