In this situation, Congress president Mallikarjuna Kharge told reporters, ‘For us, politics is not about individuals. It is about principles. It depends on the functions of the party. * Bail denied to those who threw stones at Godhra train
In 2002, the Sabarmati Express train was set on fire in Godhra, Gujarat. 59 people were killed. The case related to this came up for hearing on Friday before a bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha. At the time, it said that the bail pleas of the accused in the stone pelting case could be considered as they had already spent 17-18 years in jail. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who appeared on behalf of the Gujarat government, said, ‘People could not escape from the burning box as these criminals threw stones at the train. This is not just a case of stone pelting,’ he protested. It is the Gujarat government that opposes the bail of the Kalveezi protesters, who recently released on probation the 11 convicts who gang-raped a pregnant Bilgis Banu and murdered 14 members of her family, including her 3-year-old child, in the same riots. It is noteworthy that many cases have been filed against this in the Supreme Court.
