The Magistrate’s Court in Petah Tikva this morning (Sunday) allowed the publication of the name of the suspect Yaakov Tanami, who was arrested on suspicion of committing sexual offenses against minors under the age of 14. Tanami lives in Carnei Samaria and worked in Talmud Torah in Kedumim. The Israel Police is conducting an investigation into the suspicion that he committed sexual offenses against those minors.

According to the suspicion, the suspect used to sexually harm minors while they were in an educational institution. At the hearing held at the Pet Tikva Magistrate’s Court, the judge allowed the publication of the name of the suspect, Yaakov Tanami, who is suspected of committing a series of indecent acts on minors under the age of 14, invasion of privacy and an indecent act in public, and extended his detention until tomorrow, Tuesday, December 5. The Israel Police stated: “Minors who have fallen victim over the years are asked to report to the Ariel Police by phone at 03-772-9444 or at Moked 100 and at any other police station.”

In the local council, the Shomron Rays contacted parents even before Tanami’s name was allowed to be published, and with the news of his arrest, the education and welfare departments issued instructions to parents. “Last week, a report was received about a suspected violation of the safety of students in one of the schools in Kedumim, by a staff member who lives in Carnei Shomron. In light of an investigation we conducted, we found that this resident did not teach in the formal and informal settings in the settlement,” the parents were told.

The parents were also informed that the incident was being investigated by the Israel Police. “We are in contact with the police and the welfare department of the local council Kedumim, with the aim of making sure that the safe routine of life continues.”

Yigal Lahav, head of the council, Ehad Zimmeran, director of the education division, and Einat Shemesh, director of the social services department, on whose behalf the letter was signed, continued and wrote: “We call on you parents, to have a dialogue with the children about their protection and maintaining their personal space, as well as share with you what is happening to them. We must help our children To maintain trust and a sense of security in the public space alongside learning precautionary measures.”

Lahav wrote on his Facebook account this morning: “About a week and a half ago, several incidents of sexual abuse of minors by a staff member were discovered at a school outside the settlement. We will show zero tolerance for this type of incident and ask for your help in creating maximum protection with us for your children.”
