Tehran: Anti-hijab protestors reject Iran’s claim that moral police unit has been disbanded. Activists who support the protests say that there has been no change in the dress code for women as determined by the morality police.

With the anti-hijab protest approaching its three-month mark, social media have called for a three-day strike this week. As part of this, it has been decided to hold a rally tomorrow at Freedom Square in Tehran. Tomorrow is student day in Iran.Nationwide protests erupted on September 16 when Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman who was taken into custody by the moral police for not wearing the hijab, died of head injuries.

The Attorney General of Iran, Mohammad Jafar Montesseri, announced that the morality police had been disbanded the other day. But the lack of official confirmation about the disbandment of the Moral Police Unit under the Ministry of Home Affairs raises doubts among the protesters.

Iran’s national media also did not accept the Attorney General’s statement. The national media says that the Ministry of Home Affairs and not the Judiciary is in charge of the morality police. Protesters say that even if the unit is disbanded, there will be no change in Iran’s hijab law. So far, 470 people, including 64 children, have been killed and 18,210 arrested in anti-hijab protests.
