When past, present and future meet: “Echo of your voice” evokes nostalgia that has not yet happened

by time news

A new musical drama, in an old relaxed way, joined the prime time line of Here 11 yesterday (Monday). At the center of the story is Kobi Shemer, the son of, torn between his father’s great success and his son’s apparent career. Between the two stable steps, endowed with a “beautiful voice and good luck” there is a rickety, tangled and self-conflicted step, which has joined the series in the form of macho masculinity with a mustache.

The Shemer family is made up of three generations of musicians – the grandfather, the legendary Ari Shemer who is responsible for the 80s hits of good old Israel, the successful son with the sound of the bells (Or Amrami Brockman) and the father who fell between the chairs (Itamar Rothschild). The story of the creator and director, Tom Shoval, chose to focus on those who are usually left behind. That talented one who failed to push the boundaries of the studio, move to the front of the stage and shake the hearts of the audience. But when it already seems that the frustration is about to subdue him, an offer arrives that is difficult to come up with, but becomes the essence.

Already at the beginning of the series one can feel the extreme dissonance between the past and the future. Always everything on the continuum. Kobe is a presenter of an autonomous vehicle that symbolizes everything that is yet to happen to him and his musical career, while the rest around feels like the plot was written from 30 years ago. Kobe’s relationship with the music also seems complex and shaky, just like his relationship with his father, who “was there for everyone except him.” While he is working on a new record and creating songs written with special and weird emotional intelligence, meanwhile around the compliments continue to flow in both wrong directions.

Although the new drama revolves around music, there is no doubt that the poet’s intention was to focus rather on the relationship between the three generations. It’s easy for us to believe that the next generation of great artists will also be able to make their voices heard and thrive in the music industry, but “Echo Goes” makes us see the less good sides. The difficulty of bridging the gap, being in your own right and creating your art without family references.

After the repeated courtships of Gidi (Shmuel Vilozny), the former partner in the duo with Ari Shemer “Shani Menashe”, comes the moment that changes the picture. Kobe was driving in his autonomous car, when suddenly she was “cheating on him” and not stopping in time for the arrival of a pedestrian who jumped onto the road, and he of course was Gidi. It offers him to join him as a duo (under circumstances I will not detail so as not to ruin your episode) and return the crown to its former glory.

What does the future hold?

“Echo Your Voice” is written in a serious way, but with a lot of cynicism and “black jokes” that lighten the heavy plot. The choice of actors, most of whom are not very familiar, creates a kind of distance of the viewer and allows him to look at the series with a more forgiving look. However, it seems that the very fact that most of the cast is completely anonymous is beneficial to credibility and it made me sometimes feel like I’m watching a real documentary where Ari Shemer is their Eric Einstein. I wonder if that’s how it was with him.

This is admittedly only the first episode, but already while watching I have already seen in my head the wheels moving back and forth. How from the most hurt and painful place Kobi will be able to recreate his father’s success, if any, what does the future hold for the third generation of the Shemer family and will there be a happy ending here where everyone lived happily ever after? The mysterious spirit certainly surrounds the corporation’s new series, but I sincerely hope to clear the fog and close the chain with the fine musical sequence it has to offer.
