Nice, land of tennis. The city has been designated to host, from 2023 and for the next five years, the Hopman Cup, a mixed exhibition by nation. The International Tennis Federation (ITF) announced this in a press release on Tuesday.

«As part of a five-year agreement between the ITF and Tennium, a Barcelona company that works on numerous ATP and WTA events, the prestigious Nice Lawn Tennis Club will host the international mixed competition from 2023 until 2027“, can we read in the press release.

Created in 1989 and last held in 2019, the Hopman Cup has always been played in Perth, Australia during the first week of the season. Eight nations compete, represented by a mixed pair and divided into two pools. Prestigious players have won it, such as Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Martina Hingis, Steffi Graf, or Boris Becker. Two French pairs lifted the trophy: Alizé Cornet and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at the end of 2013, Kristina Mladenovic and Richard Gasquet at the start of 2017.

Change of schedule for the new Nice formula: the tournament will now be held in July, just after Wimbledon. Six nations will take part in the 2023 and 2024 editions, before dropping to eight in 2025.
