Fear of a safety hazard in thousands of cars sold in Israel

First recall for a Chinese car sold in Israel: importer Geely announces that approximately 5,000 Geely Geometric C electric cars traveling on the country’s roads are required to be recalled. The recall is valid for cars manufactured between 7/20/2021 and 9/26/2022 | This is the vast majority of Geely cars sold in Israel

About 5000 Geely Geometric C cars, the electric car sold in Israel, are being called back to the garage. The reason? Safety software update for all cars of this type manufactured between July 20, 2021 and September 26, 2021.

“Calcalist” reports that according to the importer, there is a concern that in rare cases when slowing down while driving on a slope when the battery is almost fully charged “the software in the battery control unit (BMS) may cause a warning light to be activated and the power to be limited which will lead to a gradual deceleration to a complete stop”.

As part of the recall, customers who come to Geely garages will be required to perform a software update that takes about twenty minutes and is performed on the spot. According to the importer, Geely customers will also be able to upgrade the multimedia and air conditioning systems at no cost in the same update.

It is important to note that according to the law in Israel today, the owner of a vehicle that is ordered for recall and does not take care of it within six months cannot pass the annual test. Fixing the recall is not complicated, but it will still require Geely customers to come to the importer’s garages, and this, for example, is in contrast to some cases where customers of Tesla, for example, can handle certain recalls through a simple update over the air.
