Annamalaiyar temple is about 250 years old in Yercaud, Salem district. Special pujas are held in this temple every year in the month of Karthikai and Maha Deepam is lit on Dipa Thirunal. Accordingly, this year too, Maha Deepam was lit yesterday evening. Yesterday morning, the day of Deepatri, Anna Malaya and Nyamalai Amman were shown the Parani Deeparathan and special abhishekam was performed.
Later, special pujas were also conducted in the goddess temples there. Later in the evening Maha Deepam was lit at Tiruvannamalai, followed by Maha Deepam at Annamalaiyar temple in Yercaud. 67 hill villagers in Yercaud participated in the ceremony and received the grace of Annamalai.
