Kannada actor and social activist Chetan Kumar has said that since 70 percent of the players in the Indian cricket team belong to the upper castes, reservation system should be implemented.

The Indian team is touring Bangladesh to play 3 ODIs and 2 Tests. In the first ODI on the 4th, despite having senior players, like the IPL T20 match, the Indian team scored just 186 runs in 41.2 overs and was bowled out. The Bangladesh team, who played after this, lost 9 wickets in 46 overs and achieved their first win. The Indian team is struggling in the ongoing second match as well.

In a statement released by Kannada actor Chetan Kumar, he said that like India having reservation in education, employment and politics, it should be brought in cricket as well, and if members of scheduled and tribal communities are selected for the Indian team through reservation, their performance will be better.

70 percent of players belong to upper caste!

Chetan Kumar said, “70 percent of the players who play in the Indian cricket team belong to the upper caste section. Let’s take a look back at what is happening in the South African cricket team. Last year 2016 reservation system was implemented in South Africa team. Accordingly the South African Cricket Board has mandated a certain number of non-white players in their national team. In that, there is a reservation that 6 players should be non-white in the team, especially two should be black.

In India, everyone knows how much money is involved in cricket and how influential the media is in it. If the Indian cricket team is to perform well, implementation of reservation is essential. “For the Indian cricket team to perform well, it is necessary to bring reservation for Scheduled Castes (SC/ST),” he said.

Actor Chetan Kumar’s comments have received mixed responses. A netizen said that the skill of the player should be taken as the basis in the game and instead politics should not be introduced in the game.
