Following Twitter and Meta, e-commerce company Amazon has announced massive layoffs. It has also been reported that Amazon is planning to cut costs due to lack of profitability. A few days ago, it was reported that Amazon has decided to lay off 10,000 employees, and now this number has increased significantly. It has been reported that the company is preparing to lay off 20,000 employees. The layoffs are said to specifically target Amazon’s distribution center employees, technical staff and corporate executives.
20,000 layoffs at e-commerce giant Amazon would be the biggest lay off in Amazon’s history. That’s said to be close to 1.3 percent of Amazon’s total workforce. Amazon currently employs more than 1.5 million people worldwide.
