Acting Governor of the Yaroslavl Region Mikhail Evraev handed a Russian passport to Alexei Kotov, a native of the Gavrilov-Yamsk region, who had previously recorded a video message to his parents asking them to release him from 20 years of slavery in Kazakhstan.

“It’s hard to imagine what you had to go through. All residents of the region were very worried about you and followed your history. We will do our best so that you can undergo medical rehabilitation and find a job in the Yaroslavl region. Welcome home. I wish you and your loved ones good health, ”the press service of the government of the Yaroslavl region quotes the words of Mr. Evraev.

Alexey Kotov is now undergoing a comprehensive medical examination at the Gavrilov-Yamskaya hospital. Later he will be sent for rehabilitation. Last week, the Karaganda Oblast Criminal Police Department opened a criminal case on the illegal imprisonment of Mr. Kotov after a video with his participation appeared on social networks. On the recording, he introduced himself as a native of the village of Gore-Gryaz, Yaroslavl Region, and stated that he had been held in captivity for 20 years.

Subsequently, the police came to the conclusion that the Yaroslavets worked on a peasant farm of his own free will. On November 18, Alexey Kotov returned to Russia.
